As our Community Housing Assistant (CHA), you’re the face-to-face customer support to our communities. If you like variety, meeting and supporting customers, and want to develop a career in housing, then this is the perfect job for you!



What you’ll do



  • Through visibility, engagement with customers and proactivity on our estates, you’ll really get to get to know our communities.


  • You’ll support our housing managers to look after their patches and through this, help us to improve our local neighbourhoods.


  • You’ll support with tasks such as managing our voids processes which includes liaising with local authorities, estate inspections, engaging and meeting with contractors on site.


  • You’ll carry out and record the routine safety and compliance checks in our buildings and communities.


  • You’ll also manage the admin updating records, ordering, and arranging payment for works to be done.

You have



  • A “can do” positive attitude, you’re proactive and well organised, able to work on your initiative.


  • A real passion for delivering excellent customer service and a genuine desire to help your customers.


  • Confidence working collaboratively with colleagues in other parts of the business and external partners


  • An understanding of housing management, housing law and universal credit would be ideal, but they’re not deal breakers!


  • The ability to use technology to navigate our systems and update customer records


  • An appreciation that this is a role where you’ll spend much of your time lone working in our local estates.

The practical bits



  • This is a hybrid role and in an average week, you’ll spend about 3 days working from our communities in South Tyneside.


  • Although you’ll spend time in our neighbourhoods, we do get together regularly, we spend 2 days in the office at One Strawberry Lane and 3 days working between our communities and from home.


  • There may be some flexibility to adapt your working hours, do let us know about this when you meet us at the interview


  • We mainly work Monday to Friday and work occasional evenings to meet with customers. The great news is that you’ll be able to shape your own diary.


  • To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!


  • You’ll need a Standard DBS check done and we pay for that.
