JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 92 year old woman living in the Rhoose are with my husband and our dog. I am a retired school teacher and was a head mistress at a school in Cardiff.

I used to be an avid reader but this can be more challenging now so tend to only read the newspaper and watch television for entertainment. I like to engage in conversation and have a good sense of humour.

I have a diagnosis of Dementia and I am basically bed bound due to a broken hip I suffered a few years ago.

PURPOSE OF JOB

I am looking for 2 PAs to provide me with overnight support. I need this support every night to ensure my safety and to provide my husband with some much needed respite.

HOURS OF WORK

I have 5 overnights available each week and these will ideally be worked between 10pm and 7am.

There is some flexibility with the days but preferably the 5 days will be worked without a two day gap. My husband finds it challenging to support me two nights in a row.

RATES OF PAY

£97 per night

TASKS INVOLVED

Ensuring my safety at night.
Taking me to the toilet during the night when required.
Changing me and potentially my sheets if needed. I make use of waterproof sheets and blankets.
Prompting me to take medication before bed and in the morning. My husband can support with this.
Making me a hot drink in the morning before leaving.
Talking and engaging with me.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

Female only due to the personal care involved.
A mature person.
A person willing to engage in conversation with me and get to know me better.
Someone who is happy working in a home with a very friendly dog.
A punctual and reliable person.
A kind and friendly person.
Someone who understands and respects the confidentiality of working in someone else’s house.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).

The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
