Level 3 Early Years Educator – Role Description and Expectations
As a valued member of our preschool, your role as a Level 3 Early Years Educator is to provide outstanding care and education for children aged 2–4 years. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to learn and grow.
1. Caring for Children
• Provide warm, nurturing, and consistent care for all children in your group.
• Support each child’s personal, social, and emotional well-being, helping them to develop confidence, independence, and positive relationships.
• Meet children’s individual care needs, including toileting, hygiene, and comfort.
• Promote positive behaviour through encouragement, praise, and clear boundaries.
2. Learning and Development
• Observe and assess your key children, keeping accurate records of their learning and progress.
• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Support children’s development through play, communication, and exploration.
• Adapt activities and routines to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities.
3. Room Leadership
• Take responsibility for leading the room when required, ensuring routines and activities run smoothly and safely.
• Support colleagues, students, and apprentices with guidance and teamwork.
• Maintain a calm, positive atmosphere that promotes children’s learning and well-being.
4. Health, Safety, and Safeguarding
• Always prioritise children’s safety and welfare.
• Follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures, reporting concerns immediately.
• Complete and review risk assessments regularly to ensure a safe environment.
• Keep your Paediatric First Aid qualification up to date and respond appropriately to accidents or incidents.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation throughout the setting.
5. Professional Conduct and Teamwork
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with children, parents, and staff.
• Use your initiative to identify and solve problems effectively.
• Be flexible, reliable, and willing to assist where needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
6. Training and Development
• Attend team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
• Keep your knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, and child development current.
• Reflect on your practice and seek opportunities for continuous improvement
