Summary
Neway International are looking for a Social Work Assistant to join our client based with Cardiff Council.
Start Date: 24 November 2025
End Date: 23 February 2026 (likely to be extended)
Hours: 37 per week (09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday)
About the Role
Cardiff Council is seeking two Social Work Assistants to join the Learning Disabilities service. These roles will provide direct support to adults with learning disabilities and their families/carers, helping individuals to live as independently as possible and achieve their personal goals.
You will work closely with colleagues, carers, and partner agencies to deliver high-quality, strengths-based support in line with council policies, procedures, and safeguarding responsibilities.
✅ What We’re Looking For
Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and autism
Understanding of the social model of disability
Strong communication skills, with the ability to support individuals to advocate for themselves
Good literacy skills and ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team
Commitment to equal opportunities, safeguarding, and strengths-based practice
Desirable:
Experience in statutory social care, housing, education, or health settings
Skills in assessment, risk analysis, and use of IT systems
Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2007)
Ability to speak Welsh or community languages
Special Requirements
Full valid driving licence and access to a car
Willingness to work outside normal office hours if required
Enhanced DBS check
