A new post is available in the Wiltshire Cardiac Centre for a senior trainee in cardiology looking to widen their experience in complex pacing, interventional cardiac resynchronisation therapy and physiological pacing. The pacing service is integrated with a dynamic heart failure service and heavily involved in several research studies in heart failure and pacing. The department has a large volume of patients undergoing conduction system pacing and is participating in the PROTECT HF study. This department also runs regular courses in conduction system pacing and an interventional CRT course. This is post is ideally suited for a senior cardiology trainee who wants to learn interventional CRT, including venoplasty and physiological pacing as well as how to set up and deliver a safe and effective service.
The candidate would be expected to undertake pacing catheter laboratory sessions which will include patients requiring physiological pacing under the supervision of the consultants.
The candidate would be expected to help recruit potential participants for clinical trials specifically the PROTECT-HF and PROTECT UP studies. This would involve approaching the participants, discussing the trials and obtaining informed consent with appropriate documentation. Although most clinical reviews would be by consultant staff, at times the duties of the post could include meeting trial participants if they require clinical review.
The fellow would be expected to support the HF nurses seeing inpatient referrals and to review new and follow up patients in the outpatients. They will have the opportunity to participate in daily CCU ward rounds. There are regular HF and device MDTs to discuss complex cases and a weekly cardiology MDT where a variety of cardiology cases are discussed along with a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Opportunity to partake in the cardiology rota would be allowed if this was desired.

The research is supported by the trust research and development department and dedicated research nurses. We would expect the successful candidate to undertake research which will lead to presentations at national or international conferences and potential publications.
