Location: County Hall (base), with remote/mobile working across Cardiff Employment Type: Temporary – Agency Worker
Hours per Week: 24
Start Date: asap/ 17 November 2025
End Date: 16 February 2026
Working Pattern: 09:00 – 17:00 (including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required)

✨ About the Role
Cardiff Council is seeking a Mobile Responder (Grade 5) to join the Telecare Cardiff service within the Adults, Housing & Communities Directorate. This vital role provides an efficient, reliable, and friendly response to emergency alarm calls from vulnerable and elderly customers, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
You will be part of a dedicated team delivering frontline support, responding to emergency and priority calls, and working closely with colleagues, care agencies, and emergency services to provide reassurance and practical help.
Key Responsibilities
Respond promptly to emergency alarm calls and priority issues reported via the Contact Centre.
Visit customers in their homes to provide practical help, care, or support.
Liaise with next of kin, care agencies, and emergency services when required.
Maintain clear, accurate records of visits and actions taken.
Install, program, and test dispersed alarm units, pendants, and fast dial buttons.
Carry out routine visits to sheltered housing schemes in the absence of the Scheme Manager.
Drive safely to customer locations using Council vehicles, maintaining vehicle logs and equipment.
Support colleagues by mentoring new starters and sharing best practice.
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, equality of opportunity, and health & safety standards.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
GCSEs (minimum 5 at grade C or above, including Maths and English).
Ability to work under pressure with confidence and initiative.
Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and digital).
Proficiency with IT systems, apps, and mobile technology.
Caring attitude with commitment to customer service.
Flexibility to work unsocial hours (evenings, weekends, bank holidays).
Desirable:
Experience delivering customer-focused information.
Ability to speak Welsh or community languages.
Knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed approaches.
Working Arrangements
24 hours per week (flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays).
Base at County Hall, with mobile working across Cardiff.
Enhanced DBS required prior to start.
