Summary

Job Description:

Purpose of the Role

To provide safe, high-quality, person-centred complex care support throughout the night to individuals with significant health needs. The role requires continuous alertness, clinical awareness, and the ability to respond promptly to any changes in the service user’s condition.

Key Responsibilities

Provide dedicated waking night support, remaining awake and vigilant for the entire shift.
Deliver safe and competent support with PEG feeding, including setting up, monitoring feeds, and ensuring all equipment is cleaned and maintained in line with clinical guidance.
Monitor, recognise, and respond appropriately to epileptic seizures, following individual care plans and emergency protocols.
Carry out blood glucose (BM) checks, record results accurately, and escalate any concerns or abnormalities following clinical thresholds.
Support with medication administration where appropriate and in line with Abimatic Care policies.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely records using Log my Care.
Carry out repositioning, comfort checks, pressure area monitoring, and other physical support needs through the night.
Monitor clinical equipment relevant to the individual’s needs.
Recognise and report any changes in the service user’s breathing, consciousness, or general condition without delay.
Maintain hygiene, safety, and infection control standards at all times.
Communicate effectively with day staff, family members, health professionals, and management as needed.
Support emotional reassurance and ensure the individual feels safe throughout the night.
Follow safeguarding, emergency, lone-working, and incident-reporting procedures.
Essential Requirements

Experience working in complex care.
Confident and competent in:
PEG feeding / enteral nutrition
Epilepsy management and seizure recording
Blood sugar monitoring (BM checks)
Understanding of clinical risk, emergency procedures, and escalation processes.
Ability to remain awake, alert, and responsive throughout the entire night shift.
Excellent communication, record-keeping, and observational skills.
Ability to work independently and follow detailed care plans.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to complete one).
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Requirements

Experience with additional clinical tasks
Training in first aid, medication, and safeguarding.
Previous experience in a home-care environment.
