Pay rate: £22.20 per hour PAYE
Role length: Anticipated 6 months
Working arrangements: Hybrid – a minimum of 2 days per week in the office
Additional requirement: Driving Licence and ability to attend evening meetings when required
The role:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor to assist in the provision of a comprehensive and excellent legal service to the Council, it’s Members and Officers.
Key responsibilities:
Advising on a range of Local Government Law issues including Planning, Procurement, Housing, Data Protection and Freedom of Information
Dealing with criminal litigation including advising on cases and drafting information and conducting cases in the Magistrates Court
Dealing with civil litigation cases including the preparation and conduct of cases in the County Court and High Court
Advising on contract law including the drafting of Agreements for the supply or purchase of goods, services, works and software/data
Advising on licensing matters including matters in relation to the Licensing Act 2003
Drafting various statutory orders such as Bye-laws, Footpath Diversions and Off- Street Parking
General advice to other officers of the Council relating to legal issues
To represent the Council at other organisation, agencies and authorities
Instructing Counsel as directed in connection with Higher Court
To ensure policies and procedures are updated and the requirement of the council are met in an effective and efficient manner
Attendance at Boards and Committees of the Council as required by the Head of Legal Services
What the client is looking for:
Qualified Solicitor
Experience in areas of Local Government Law including conveyancing, sundry debtor collection, licensing and prosecutions is desirable
Previous Local Government experience is desirable
Self-motivated, with ability to work with minimum supervision whilst remaining a team player
