Summary

Job Overview

As an Approved Electrician specializing in metal munching, you will be responsible for the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of electrical containment systems — typically including metal trunking, conduit (EMT, IMC), cable tray, and basket. You’ll ensure all containment and wiring installations meet relevant standards and site specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Install, bend, cut, and thread metal conduit to route and protect electrical wiring.

Fabricate and fit metal trunking, tray, and basket systems for cable management.

Carry out containment layout based on engineering drawings and schematics.

Pull, terminate, and test cables within the installed containment.

Maintain compliance with the current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

Conduct inspections and testing of completed electrical systems.

Ensure all work adheres to site health and safety procedures.

Supervise and guide electricians and apprentices where required.

Liaise with site managers, engineers, and other trades to ensure smooth workflow.

Skills & Qualifications

Approved Electrician status (ECS/JIB Gold Card).

NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.

18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2018).

Proficient in metalwork — cutting, bending, and fabricating conduit and trunking.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Competent in containment installation to a high standard (visible and aesthetic finish).

Typical Work Environment

Commercial and industrial sites (factories, warehouses, offices, data centres, etc.)

Construction or refurbishment projects.

May require working at height, in confined spaces, or to tight deadlines.

Working Hours & Conditions

Standard: 40–45 hours/week (possible overtime available).

PPE required: gloves, safety boots, hard hat, eye/ear protection.
