Summary
The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 1.6 million people a year at our four main hospitals: Barnet, North Middlesex, Chase Farm and Royal Free.
The Trust aims to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.
The Solid Organ Transplantation Group, part of the Transplantation and Specialist Services division, is based at the UKAS and EFI accredited Anthony Nolan Histocompatibility Laboratories located at the Royal Free hospital site. This group provides histocompatibility and immunogenetics (H&I) services to support the Royal Free, kidney, liver and pancreatic islet transplant programmes.
We seek to recruit a healthcare scientist support worker (HSSW) to join the team on a full-time basis (1.0 WTE). The candidate should be enthusiastic, self-motivated and well acquainted with good laboratory practice. Previous experience of working in a similar medical laboratory assistant (MLA) or HSSW role would be desirable. In addition, the other requirements listed in the job specification should be fulfilled.
The position of Healthcare Scientist Support Worker (HSSW) would be in the Solid Organ Group located in the Anthony Nolan Laboratory. Our team is responsible for all aspects of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I) relating to the renal, liver and pancreatic islet cell transplant programmes of the Royal Free Hospital.
The HSSW will assist and support a highly specialised and experienced team of registered Healthcare Scientists in providing a high-quality professional laboratory service, by processing, storing and retrieving patient samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, performing data entry and retrieval in various IT systems whilst paying great attention to detail. A willingness and ability to actively, proficiently and quickly learn and participate in all aspects of laboratory activities and patient data storage and retrieval is essential.
