Summary
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Materials Buyer to strengthen their procurement team based in the Hyde area of Greater Manchester, with hybrid working available.

Materials Buyer role:
The Materials and Services Buyer will be responsible for managing procurement activities across multiple regional projects
This includes sourcing materials, negotiating contracts, placing orders, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods and services to support project delivery
The role is key to driving cost efficiency, reducing risk, and supporting smooth operational performance
Materials Buyer responsibilities:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to identify and understand procurement requirements
Contribute to the creation of project-specific procurement strategies and plans aligned with business objectives
Lead tendering activities, including the preparation of ITTs/RFQs, bid evaluations, and supplier selection
Monitor market trends and risks to support informed sourcing decisions
Negotiate commercial terms, service levels (including KPIs), and contractual agreements with suppliers
Act as the primary point of contact for resolving internal and external supply chain challenges
Promote sustainable and ethical procurement aligned with business values and ESG commitments
Maintain and enhance the P2P system to ensure accurate and up-to-date data
Support both internal and external audit processes
Produce regional reports on procurement performance and progress
Represent the department and the organisation professionally in all dealings
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
Share innovations and best practices to drive continuous improvement
Undertake any additional duties, training, or hours as required, consistent with the responsibilities of the role
Take responsibility for your own professional development by engaging in networking, training, and industry events to stay informed of current trends and innovations
Materials Buyer requirements:
Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across functions, suppliers, and stakeholders
Customer-centric approach to procurement delivery
Self-starter with the confidence to represent the Procurement function independently
Commercially aware with a solid understanding of cost drivers and risk
Skilled in networking and exerting positive business influence
Committed to ethical procurement practices in line with the CIPS Ethical Policy
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a proven track record of effective use
Demonstrates and champions the company's core values and behaviours
