Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant
Summary
Are you a recent graduate eager to make a difference? This role offers you the chance to bring your passion for supporting young people into the world of education and SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). The school is looking for someone ready to step into a rewarding classroom‑based role, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs and helping them flourish.
You may have studied Childhood Studies, Psychology, Criminology, Health & Social Care, Sports Studies - or any subject that sparked your interest in working with children and young people. If you're ready to take your next step, this is an opportunity to channel your skills into a supportive, purposeful teaching assistant role where every day brings new achievement.
The Role
- You will work alongside the teaching team in a classroom setting, supporting pupils with EHCPs (education, health and care plans).
- You may support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism, physical disabilities or other additional needs - your classroom will be selected to match your skills and interests.
- You will help deliver specialist educational and behavioural plans, liaising with teaching staff, therapists and the wider school team.
- You will create a safe, nurturing environment where every pupil is given the best chance to achieve their potential.
- The role is weekday‑based, with consistent Monday to Friday hours (8.30am-3.30pm), no evenings or weekends.
The Ideal Person and Skills/Education Needed
- Graduated from any discipline, with a keen interest in education and SEND support.
- Kind, patient, caring and reliable - you'll build consistent relationships with pupils and staff.
- Excellent communicator, able to engage and collaborate with pupils, staff and professionals.
- A nurturing approach: you understand the value of adapting to individual pupil's needs.
- Self‑motivated and flexible: you're happy working as part of a team, and confident to support and learn in the classroom.
- While experience working with young people is beneficial, full SEND or TA experience is not essential - we welcome graduates ready to transition from backgrounds such as support work, health, care or social services into the classroom.
- A relevant degree is required, and for roles in Cumbria in mainstream settings you must hold a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification.
The School
You'll be placed in a school that celebrates each pupil's unique journey, with a committed team of teaching, therapy and support staff working collaboratively to deliver high‑quality SEND provision. The environment values growth, support and genuine impact, giving you the chance to develop professionally within a nurturing culture.
Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm (full‑time or part‑time applications welcome).
The Benefits
- Competitive pay
- Consistent weekday hours with no evenings or weekends
- The chance to develop skills valued across education, psychology and care sectors
- Ongoing training and support from an experienced SEND team
- Long‑term temporary role with the potential to become permanent
If you're ready to step into a classroom and build a meaningful career supporting young people with additional needs, we'd love to hear from you.
Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
