Summary

The Faculty of Medicine in Southampton is looking for an enthusiastic individual to take on this part-time role in the assessment team. Current clinical knowledge and experience is essential, and we are particularly keen to invite applications from clinicians who have a broad range of clinical experience and are looking to take on a role in developing and implementing assessments in the clinical years of the Bachelor of Medicine (BMBS) programmes. This post will be supported by the Director of Undergraduate Assessments, the relevant Year or Module leads and the administrative staff in the Faculty’s Exams and Assessments team based at Southampton General Hospital. The post holder would be expected to draw widely on their own clinical experience and with the assistance of other clinical staff develop new questions / stations which would reflect the breadth of the clinical curriculum. Given the breadth of clinical content that will need to be assessed this will suit a clinician with a wide scope of practice but also someone who will to be able to work well within a wide team. They will be jointly responsible for running large clinical exams like OSCEs and AKTs including coordinating many participants so will have strong leadership skills. They will need to work with our IT assessment systems and to develop skills relevant to assessment including standard setting, moderation, and data analysis, so will also need strong IT and data processing / analysis skills.

Candidates should apply using the University online recruitment system, outlining why you feel you may be particularly suited to the role and include a brief CV focussing on your experience relevant to the job description.

Enquiries about the post can be addressed to Prof Jane Wilkinson, Associate dean Education ( jem.wilkinson@soton.ac.uk ), or Prof Bruce McManus, Director of Undergraduate Assessments (b.n.mcmanus@soton.ac.uk).
