• To independently model and coach identified interventions including intensive interaction and groups for children with speech, language and communication needs in Early Years under the guidance of a qualified therapist

• To independently deliver identified training to parents of children with communication needs under the guidance of a qualified therapist

• To independently deliver identified training to Early Years staff on strategies and interventions to support children with speech, language and communication needs

• To independently monitor the progress of identified children with speech, language and communication needs in Early Years under the guidance of a qualified therapist – including informal assessments, observations and discussions with early years staff and parents – and to feedback findings to the therapist

• Devise, design and produce low technology communication aids – and model using these.

• To independently model and deliver identified interventions including intensive interaction and support therapists to run groups for children with speech, language and communication needs in Early Years under the guidance of a qualified therapist

• To independently deliver identified training to parents of children with speech, language and communication needs under the guidance of a qualified therapist

• To independently deliver informal training to Early Years staff on strategies and interventions to support children with speech, language and communication needs

• To independently monitor the progress of identified children with speech, language and communication needs in Early Years under the guidance of a qualified therapist – including informal assessments, observations and discussions with early years staff and parents – and to feedback findings to the therapist

• Devise, design and produce low technology communication aids – and model using these

• To produce resources for intervention and maintain resources appropriate to the clinical environment and child’s needs as requested by therapists

• To support with the running of any school holiday group sessions run by the team

• To prioritise the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Children at all times



We are delighted to offer this opportunity to work as a Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner within CNWL Allied Health Professional (AHP) Support Workers.

AHP Support Workers are vital in CNWL’s therapies teams and have varied roles across many clinical services, as Assistants and Associate Practitioners to Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians and Podiatrists. Roles also include Activity Coordinators and Fitness Instructors.

• To independently model and deliver identified interventions to children in Early Years, with supervision/ from a qualified speech and language therapist

1.1 To model identified interventions to Nursery/School staff so they are able to continue to run school led interventions

1.2 To offer identified training to Nursery/School staff /parents on strategies and interventions to support children with speech, language and communication needs

1.3 To support qualified speech and language therapists to deliver training to staff/parents as needed – including support with organizing this as needed

1.4 To offer identified training to parents of children with speech, language and communication needs

1.5 To independently monitor the progress of identified children with speech, language and communication needs and to feedback findings to the speech and language therapist

1.6 To communicate with parent/carers, Early Years/ school staff of identified children with speech, language and communication needs and to feedback findings to the speech and language therapist

1.7 To feedback to the speech and language therapist any concerns around the child’s progress in therapy as noted in sessions or reported by setting staff or parent/carers

1.6 To record information on the child’s SystmOne record documenting input at the earliest opportunity, which would typically be by the end of the working day or the next working day at the latest

1.8 To liaise where appropriate and communicate effectively with all other members of the speech and language therapy team to ensure continuity.

1.9 To provide written and verbal communication, at all levels and to be able to communicate effectively with clients’ carers/parents, and other professionals at all levels of Trust and outside agencies.

1.10 To keep up to date with new developments within the service, and to apply this to working practice.
