Description

General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Electrical / Electronic Field Service Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based in Merthyr Tydfil. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £36,000 to £45,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team, the successful candidate is required to be a highly adaptable Engineer to provide diverse vehicle maintenance and specialist advice to MOD and GDLS-UK personnel. The role will be based at the GDLS-UK facility in Bovington but may be required to work at MoD/GDLS-UK facilities within the UK at the Company’s expense. There may also be opportunities to work overseas supporting routine maintenance and/or CONDO activities. Whilst contracted to a 37.5hrs working week, its expected to work some extended paid hours and weekends if the programme requires it. If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:
  • Technical focal point for all vehicle related matters including modifications, Post Design Services (PDS), technical training and defect reporting (DRACAS).
  • Assess battle damage, warranty faults and recommend rectification procedures.
  • Provision of training to new team members and oversee/advise/mentor MOD AJAX personnel.
  • Work with design/project engineers to develop optimised engineered solutions. Provide field feedback on technical issues and support System and Software Engineers in designing technical resolution.
  • Carrying out all levels of repairs on AJAX Variants (up to Level 4) and also upgrades / modifications, as per Design changes.
  • Perform business support administration (timesheets, procurement of equipment, stocktaking, collect and report data) using provided IT
  • Document, maintain and improve Work Instructions (including IETP etc.)
  • Working outside of a 9 to 5 routine (this could involve weekends).
To apply for this role, you will require the following:
  • Demonstrable knowledge of automotive/electrical systems and how they work together
  • Highly customer focused with good communication skills
  • IT literate with working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to share knowledge within the team
  • Ability to achieve SC Clearance level
  • Willingness to pursue personal furtherment to relevant professional qualifications
  • Experience in Tech/Electronic Engineering or related discipline
  • Military Electronic Technician Class 1 / NVQ and/or City & Guilds Level 3:
  • Armoured vehicle/Turret experience (e.g. Challenger, Warrior, CVR(T), AS90)
