Summary
Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aerospace & Defence
Location: Basildon (Hybrid – ~4 days on-site)
Rate: £70.00 per hour
Hours: 37 Hours per week
Security Clearance: SC Cleared (Sole UK National)
Contract Type: Temporary contract until March 2026 with possibility of extension
Overview
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile Aerospace & Defence programme, supporting the development of next-generation Missile Seeker systems.
You’ll contribute to the design and delivery of advanced electro-mechanical products within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality mechanical design solutions to technical and international standards.
- Conduct detailed design work including calculations, tolerance studies, and drawing generation (BS8888 / GD&T).
- Create and maintain BoMs using Teamcenter PLM.
- Support design reviews and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of solutions.
- Apply DfX principles across manufacturing, assembly, and testing stages.
Skills & Experience
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Technical discipline.
- Strong background in electro-mechanical or EO product design.
- Proficient in PTC Creo 3D CAD.
- Experience with structural design, electrical grounding, and materials selection.
- Knowledge of jigs, fixtures, tooling, and cable harness design.
- Experience in Aerospace or Defence environments essential.
Desirable: First-pass thermal analysis capability.
Additional Information
- Full-time hybrid role (Basildon site).
- UK travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
