We are looking for an experienced worker to join the Children's Safeguarding Team in Wrexham. The role will be to undertake the ISRO role for our Children Looked After and to undertake the Chairing of Child Protection case conferences. Previous experience of undertaking this role is essential.



To meet regulatory requirements which require the Authority to have Independent review officer posts (IRO).
To monitor, assess and scrutinise the performance of the Authority�s function in respect of reviews and refer to relevant bodies.
To act as lead officer in co-ordinating an effective inter-agency response to children in need of protection and children looked after.
To plan and develop a consistent response to ensure effective practice, in line with statutory, legislative, departmental and inter-agency standards.
To act as an independent chair at Children Protection meetings including Child Protection Conferences, Review Meetings, Statutory Looked After Children Reviews and Part 4 meetings.
To manage and champion delivery of the Services both within and outside the organisation proactively seeking and enabling innovation and continuous improvement in the delivery of departmental services.
To contribute as part of the wider safeguarding team to the development of the Authority�s safeguarding services.
To ensure the voice of the child/young person is heard and provide access to independent advocacy.
To effectively contribute to risk management at an operational level.
Qualifications

Degree / post graduate in a relevant field i.e. Registered Social Worker



Chartered or specific area of qualification i.e. Post-qualifying award in child care/child protection, or proven equivalent experience in the relevant field

Membership of relevant Professional Institution i.e. Social Care Wales

Team Manager or relevant management experience in sector, including PQ Award or equivalent or the commitment to gain the PQ Award within an agreed timeframe

Practice Teachers Award (PTA), or equivalent experience for coaching and mentoring and the commitment to obtain PTA within a reasonable timeframe

National Standards/ Competencies /Professional Body













Evidence of continuous professional development



Specialist Knowledge



Thorough understanding and experience of child protection processes and associated legislative guidance, eg, Children Act 1989 and 2004, Regulations, Circulars and Guidance, Social Services Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014 (Wales) Wales Safeguarding procedures 2019



In depth knowledge of safeguarding and wider social policy across all partners, including health Care, Police and Education and an understanding of how this is reflected in practice

An enhanced level of specialist knowledge in relation to safeguarding and looked after children

Understanding of factors impacting on Child Development and the needs of vulnerable/ disadvantaged children/young people

Professional Codes of Practice especially �National Standards�



Social Work processes and models of intervention
