About the RoleWe are seeking a friendly, reliable and thoughtful personal companion assistant to provide social support and to an intelligent, lively person who enjoys an active, cultured lifestyle despite early signs of cognitive impairment. The role will suit someone who is calm, thoughtful and understands the importance of discretion in social situations.
The client is a lively, articulate and educated woman with a young outlook. In her very early sixties, she has retired from a professional career and now has the time to explore and discover.
Music, particularly choir singing, is a key interest, as are walking in nature, local excursions, and visiting galleries, cinema and museums.
The companion would be expected to establish a friendly rapport as well as provide gentle structure and easy-going guidance, helping to make life's routines easy and stress free as well as enjoyable. The role is also about helping the client's family, being a friendly companion when family members are not available.
Key Responsibilities Might Include
- Helping to the client to do the things she wants to do, in the way that she wants to do them.
- Accompanying the client to rehearsals, concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural or social events
- Joining in with local outings such as shopping trips, cafés, walks and garden visits
- Providing good company, conversation and a steady, supportive presence
- Discreetly collaborating with the client to mask the symptoms of cognitive decline.
- Warm, patient and personable, with excellent communication skills
- Literate and comfortable in social, cultural, and domestic settings
- Proactive, organised and happy to help with day-to-day household management
- Interested in music, gardening, or the arts — someone who shares a sense of curiosity and enjoyment of life
- Neat and casually stylish — approachable and contemporary in outlook
- Previous experience as a personal assistant advantageous but not essential
- A driving licence would be helpful but is not essential
- Approximately 16 hours per week, with flexibility to suit both parties (occasional variation for events or outings)
- An initial period of 'testing the water' is anticipated
- Competitive hourly rate depending on experience
- Appropriate expenses such as membership fees and public transport costs will be reimbursed.
