Hours: 8:30-15:30 full time (term time)

AK Teaching is currently supporting a nurturing special needs school who cater to children and young people aged 2 to 16 years old with a wide range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The needs of the pupils include severe learning difficulties (SLD), speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), physical disabilities, and multi-sensory impairments.

The school provides a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where every pupil is valued, encouraged to reach their potential, and given the tools to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistant. This role involves supporting pupils with complex needs in a classroom setting, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver tailored support.

Responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 or small group support to pupils
- Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Supporting pupils with personal care, mobility, and physical needs as required
- Encouraging communication through specialist strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, AAC)
- Promoting independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
- Creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special needs.

Essential:
- A positive, patient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Willingness to support children with physical and personal care needs
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable:
- Experience working in a special needs or SEN school setting
- Knowledge of communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or BSL
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
