The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is at the forefront of devising and implementing policy to transition the transport sector to net zero emissions by 2050. It is a joint unit working within two government departments – the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
This policy area has strong interest from across Government as well as external stakeholders. There are also operational aspects to the role, working with the grants team in DVLA to run the applications process smoothly and supporting the management of a sizeable Plug in Vehicle Grant budget over £100m.
This is an exciting position that will provide you with valuable insights into policy, operational delivery, engagement and political facets of a major environmental policy.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- Leading on the policy for the Plug in Van and Truck Grants, ensuring that the grants support environmental objectives, represent value for money for taxpayers, and are affordable within budgets.
- Managing the operational side of the wider plug-in grants including the team’s relationship with grant applicants, key delivery partners in DfT’s agencies, and the payments process.
- Supporting OZEV’s work on affordability of zero emission vehicles, working closely with HM Treasury to ensure the taxation system supports this transition.
- Drafting submissions and provide briefings for ministers and senior civil servants.
- Line management of an EO Grant Manager.
Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
