If you enjoy working outside, have a valid driving licence and have experience of grounds maintenance work using professional equipment – we are offering the opportunity to join our small, diverse and friendly organisation.
Hythe and Dibden Parish Council is looking to recruit a Grounds and Building Operative working 37 hours a week, Monday – Thursday 8am – 4.30pm and Friday 8am – 1pm.
The post holder will be expected to work one weekend in four, Saturday 8am – 11am Sunday 8am - 1pm. In addition to the allowance that is paid for the weekend duties, the post holder will not be expected to work on the Monday after their weekend shift.
The successful candidate will be expected, when required, to be available to work additional hours at Parish Council events, to provide additional capacity during busy times, to attend call outs and will be required to work occasional Bank Holidays, for which overtime is payable.
The post holder must hold a current, full, clean driving licence (minimum category B), be subject to a DBS check, and have the ability to work on their own initiative. The post holder will report to the Grounds and Building Manager through the Grounds and Buildings Supervisor.
Salary SCP 7: £26,403 plus Weekend Working Allowance of £105.26 per month and enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme. Holiday entitlement of 25 days holiday per annum plus Bank Holidays, rising to 28 days per annum after 5 years’ continuous service. This role has a pay award pending April 2026.

This post is subject to a 6-month Probation Period. It is understood and agreed that the first 6 months of employment shall constitute a probationary period during which time Employer may, in its absolute discretion, terminate the employee's employment, for any reason without notice or cause.
