Job Description

PAY AWARD PENDING.

A full time, permanent vacancy for a Homeless and Housing Options Caseworker has become available within our housing solutions team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and delivering a high standard housing options and homeless service to persons who have a housing problem or who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Delivering front line housing options advice, advocacy and referral services you will manage a housing options and homeless caseload and be responsible for delivery of housing options and ensuring that homeless applications are comprehensively assessed in line with legislation, guidance and within performance timescales.

You will liaise with a range of agencies to ensure that support, advice and practical assistance is provided to all service users to enabling them to prevent or resolve homelessness and maintain secure accommodation.

You should have relevant housing or other front line public service experience as well as
experience in interviewing and working with vulnerable individuals with challenging issues.

You will have excellent communication skills and should be customer focused, team orientated and have the ability to work under pressure.

A working knowledge of homelessness legislation is required and an understanding of the issues around homelessness should be demonstrated.

Requirements

This post is considered a Regulated Role with Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
