The role
Are you ready to take the lead in protecting Wales' water environment and driving real change on the ground?
As a Senior Environment Officer based in Buckley, you'll play a pivotal role in leading our water regulatory programme, tackling pollution, and supporting NRW's incident response service. You'll be at the forefront of safeguarding Denbighshire's environment-working across rivers, coastal zones, and bathing waters to ensure they meet the highest standards.
In this senior role, you'll mentor and guide colleagues, helping to shape the team's technical capabilities and response strategies. You'll lead on critical issues such as Bathing Water quality, working closely with partners, stakeholders, and even local politicians to influence improvements and ensure that waters like Prestatyn Beach meet and exceed national targets.
You'll also:
• Lead and support complex regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.
• Deliver key elements of our water quality and pollution prevention programme.
• Represent NRW with communities, councillors, and stakeholders to build collaborative solutions.
• Support a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team covering permits, protected sites, and incident response.

1. Experience of project development and management. (desirable)
2. Experience of technical and advising team members.
3. Overall understanding of the sustainable management of natural resources, with focused expertise in a distinct area of the Environment Team remit.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
5. Good knowledge and experience of regulatory and enforcement processes.

What you will do
- Represent NRW in discussions with partner organisations.
- Act as technical mentor and advisor to team members.
- Closely assist Team Leader in the planning and delivery of compliance programme and enforcement.
- Take appropriate actions to collect evidence for enforcement purposes, in accordance with defined procedures.
- Where non-compliance is identified, determine and implement the most appropriate intervention option.
- Co-ordinate the technical development of team members.
- Play a key role in identifying opportunities for new Management Agreements and Partnership Projects to deliver NRW priorities at place.
- Play a senior role in supporting a resilient and competent NRW Incident Management Service that follows NRW process.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
