Please see the full job description for further information Clinical Responsibilities Provide specialist nursing practice, knowledge and advice to all members of the multi-disciplinary team in matters relating to pain management. Manage risks within the sphere of responsibility. To take autonomous responsibility for a clinical caseload. To undertake Nurse-led clinics for both newly referred and follow up patients Triage referrals coming into IPMS as a central point of access to pain management services within West Suffolk. Using inclusion/exclusion criteria for IPMS and own clinical judgement reject, refer on, take to Multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT) or accept referrals into the IPMS as appropriate. Interpret clinical, laboratory and radiology data as necessary To provide individualised evidence based advice, education and support to patients and their carers to help manage their pain. Assess the health and psychosocial needs of patients and provide care to meet these needs through a process of shared decision making. Support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisions relating to their treatment and management. Provide a seamless, high-quality service from referral to assessment and management and review. To understand when a patients care is beyond own clinical limitation and to liaise with senior members of the team, or other professionals for advice. If a non-medical prescriber qualification is held, prescribe the appropriate medication for pain management and symptom control or advise on medications in accordance with the WSFT NMP policy, local and national guidelines and guidance including those from their professional body In the absence of non-medical prescribing qualification when appropriate, advise on pain-related medicines working at all times within the limits of their training, competence, legislation, WSFT Medication Advice Policy, relevant national/ local policies and guidance including those from their professional regulatory body. Actively lead in the development of both inpatient and outpatient pain services for patients, promoting high-quality clinical care and assisting in the development of the specialist service through the use of evidence based practice and clinical standards. Develop innovative ways of working which meet the needs of patients, carers and the changing healthcare economy. Evaluate new proprietary products, drugs, medical devices and equipment. Work in an organised, flexible manner, responding to the changing and challenging needs of the service. Identify the need for, develop and implement, pain management teaching and training programmes, revising and updating the contents to maintain effectiveness. Adhere to and promote compliance amongst colleagues with IPMS policies, guidelines and standards. Act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of clinical care and leadership.
