About Roundabout
Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s youth housing charity, supporting young people aged 16–25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide shelter, support, and life skills to help young people become independent. Our team is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for both staff and the young people we support.
The Role
Reporting to the HR Lead, this is a new role as we grow our HR department to support our incredible team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make this role your own and make a real impact.
We’re looking for a confident and compassionate HR Advisor with a primary focus on Employee Relations (ER). You’ll be the go-to expert for line managers, providing guidance, coaching, and hands-on support with ER matters including grievances, disciplinaries, investigations, and appeals.
You’ll also play a key role in updating and communicating HR policies, ensuring best practice is embedded across the organisation. Alongside your ER responsibilities, you’ll support a range of HR activities including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, wellbeing, L&D, and HR administration.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead on ER casework including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, and appeals.
• Coach and support line managers to handle people matters confidently and fairly.
• Ensure HR policies are up to date, legally compliant, and clearly communicated.
• Deliver training and guidance to managers on best practice in people management.
• Carry out onboarding and inductions for new starters.
• Support recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring a positive candidate experience.
• Contribute to employee engagement, wellbeing, and learning & development initiatives.
• Maintain accurate HR records and support general HR administration.
What we offer you
At Roundabout, you’ll be part of a passionate team making a real difference in young people’s lives. We offer:
• Flexible working and hybrid options to support work-life balance.
• Extra wellbeing days and a strong focus on mental health support.
• Regular team socials and events to build connection and community.
• Opportunities for personal and professional development.
• A workplace where your voice is heard and your impact is valued.
Person Specification
Knowledge and experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in an ER-focused HR role.
• CIPD Level 5 (or working towards) is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
• Experience of updating and implementing HR policies and procedures.
• Confident in managing sensitive and complex ER cases.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to coach and influence managers at all levels.
• Understanding of safeguarding principles and safer recruitment practices.
• Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Confident use of HR technology.
• Charity sector experience is desirable.
Personal Attributes
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build relationships at all levels.
• Highly organised with excellent time management and attention to detail, capable of juggling tasks with a sense of ownership
• Discreet and professional in handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Friendly, approachable, and a good listener.
• Proactive, solution-focused, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
• Committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• A supportive team player, willing to contribute across a range of tasks.
