People & Culture Advisor

Contract: P&C Operations

Location: Livingston, EH54 8AF

Hours of work: 37.5

Contract Type: Permanent

This role plays a vital part within the People & Culture team, providing both strategic and operational support to a designated business area.

As the primary point of contact for operational managers on employee relations (ER) matters, you will deliver commercially focused, practical advice and guidance to support consistent and fair people management practices.

Job Description

Your work will be central to driving positive employee engagement and fostering a high-performance culture that reflects the organisation’s core values. You will collaborate closely with senior leaders to champion principled approaches to people management.

The position carries full responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of ER cases—typically around 30 per month—across a workforce of approximately 2,500 placemakers. This includes handling disciplinary issues, sickness absence, grievances, and smaller-scale restructures or redundancies, with a strong emphasis on independent case management and sound judgement.

Key Responsibilities

Provide professional advice, guidance, and support to the People & Culture team and business managers on all people-related matters.

Support the People & Culture team and managers in reviewing correspondence, reports, and documentation related to employee relations (ER) issues.

Assist the People & Culture Manager in the design and delivery of People & Culture-related training for managers.

Support the People & Culture Manager in the case management and coordination of Employment Tribunal claims.

Establish and maintain clear and effective communication channels between People & Culture and key stakeholders.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of People & Culture policies and procedures, including those of our clients, where applicable.

Contribute to the implementation of best practices in people management, with a focus on promoting equal opportunities, inclusion, and cultural diversity.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

Experience in a strong People & Culture Generalist role.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, and/or CIPD qualified, or willing to work towards CIPD qualification.

Proven track record of successfully advising and guiding management on all aspects of people management practices.

Solid knowledge of UK employment legislation, with a basic understanding of TUPE and experience working with unions.

Experience in change management and business reorganisations.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
