Oxfordshire Community Dental Service is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Dental Officer.
As a part of this role you will be required to provide comprehensive routine and urgent dental care to adult special care and paediatric patients in a variety of locations including dental clinics, hospitals, residential care, mental health units, homeless and domiciliary settings as required.
Whilst providing dental treatment using a variety of treatment modalities including local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthetic.
This posts will be based in across Oxfordshire and the successful candidate will be expected to have;
- excellent clinical skills
- strong communication and inter-personal skills
- the ability to coordinate and carry out tasks
- comprehensive IT skills (experience using Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Word).
Dental services in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust are provided by the Oxfordshire Community Dental Service (OCDS). This service provides National Health Service (NHS) dentistry to a wide range of patients including both adults and children requiring either special care dentistry, or specialist care. In addition to this core role the service also provides emergency care for patients requiring urgent dental treatment who do not currently have a dentist of their own.
The service provides care for patients from ten dental clinics across Oxfordshire located at Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, East Oxford, Luther Street, Kidlington, Wantage and Witney.
Several of the clinics are equipped to provide dental treatment with inhalation and/or intravenous sedation and the service also provides dental treatment under general anaesthesia for children and adult special care patients at the John Radcliffe and Horton Hospitals.
For patients who are unable to access the clinics easily there is a countywide domiciliary (home visit) service available by referral. All the clinics have wheelchair access and facilities for patients with disabilities and there is are hoists available at East Oxford and Murray House Dental Clinics for patients who have difficulty transferring into the dental chair.

- Primary Dental Qualification
- Registered with General Dental Council
- Relevant postgraduate qualification
- Good IM&T knowledge and skills including R4, Microsoft Office
- Ability to deal with sensitive information and respect confidentiality
- Experience in General Dental Practice
- Experience of more than one branch of dentistry
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role of the CDS
- Evidence of good dental record keeping
- Experience of working as part of a team including supervisory role at an appropriate level
- Delivery of dental care under inhaltion sedation
- Experience of working with a wide range of patient groups
- Able to demonstrate relevant experience in Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Audit
- Experience of working on a domiciliary basis
- Full registration with General Dental Council
- Completion of Dental Core Training or demonstrable exemption
- Ability to travel between sites
- Commitment to safegaurding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
