Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients. Ensuring good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. Adhering to NMC Code of Professional Conduct and standards for registration at all times. Supporting patients, relatives, carers, and friends and where appropriate involving them in the care of the patient. Promoting well-being and involving patients and relatives in health education. Ensuring that patients and relatives are given accurate information and advice on Radiological procedures. Participate in the review and update of the patient information leaflets. Ensuring contemporaneous record keeping at all times. Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times, including patient handovers, as per Trust policy. To take responsibility for managing and coordinating the interventional suite as required. To acknowledge personal limitations in patient care and seek advice from senior staff members where appropriate. To rotate to other departments within the specialty as required (Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine) , or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process. After appropriate training, conduct patient ward rounds to prepare for next days list in order to prevent on the day and last minute cancellations. To effectively manage a pre-assessment clinic when allocated to do so, ensuring that patient is fit for procedure, identifying potential issues that may affect the safe delivery of care, and prompt escalation as appropriate. To organise and perform nurse led preassessment clinics utilising the EPIC system to order and obtain results. Completing the radiology report documentation and on informing the referrers of the suitability of the patient for day care and/or arranging admission. To ensure the equipment competencies for the Recovery/Day Cases and Angiography Interventional Suites are completed. Have effective communication and time management skills to avoid delay in getting patients ready for procedures. To assist with the administration of intravenous injections of radiopharmaceuticals and other agents for diagnosis and support in the management of stock levels as required. Participating in the on-call service, and be available to support the service as rostered. Working effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) through: Liaising effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the relevant information regarding the patients needs/condition are communicated to them, and that any instructions from them regarding the patients care/condition are acted upon. Exercising leadership and taking the initiative where appropriate. Providing support and advice to ward/unit staff (especially junior staff) on clinical and administrative issues. Liaising with discharge coordinator / bed manager/ IR coordinator to ensure effective admission/discharge of patients. Keeping the ward/unit sister / charge nurse informed of significant changes and/or anticipated problems. To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student nurses as required. Participate in Trust and Divisional initiatives to develop practice and support change. To anticipate day to day staffing problems and take appropriate action in conjunction with the team leader, sister/charge nurse, matron and head of nursing, to ensure good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. To act as a liaison within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimum, timely patient care. Acting as a role model at all times and for all staff To act as a mentor to other staff members and students, responsible for the orientation, supervision and ongoing development within the required timeframe, in conjunction with Line Manager and Practice Development staff. Working with appropriate members of the teaching staff (training and education, PDN, Line Manager) to ensure effective staff development (own and others) and participating in action learning where appropriate. To take responsibility for own professional development and to agreed plans with the sister/charge nurse and PDN in order to complete the required and identified Radiology Education Pathway. Participating in Trust and Divisional initiatives to develop nursing practice and support change. To attend and contribute to departmental meetings as required. Have a commitment to improve patient care by participating in audit and research projects within the department. To be involved with audits and key performance indicators, including own performance appraisals. To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy and to assist in the investigation of such incidences. To accurately record stock movements on the radiology inventory system.
