Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Protection Manager to join our Public Health Team in a 12 month fixed term role to cover a period of maternity leave. You will take a lead role in North Somerset Council’s work to assure local health protection systems and manage the risk from infectious diseases as well as environmental, chemical and radiological threats.
In this role, you will provide strategic support to the Public Health Consultant lead for Health Protection, managing the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities in relation to health protection through the development, implementation and assurance of local health protection programs. You will provide leadership, expertise and advice related to health protection workstreams, including community infection prevention and control, immunisation, screening and EPRR.
Key Responsibilities:
Working in an integrated team with NSC Regulatory Services and Emergency Planning leads under one Public Health Consultant to deliver on NSC Health Protection objectives.
Ensuring the effective running of the North Somerset Health Protection Assurance Group and BNSSG Health Protection Committee
Providing advice and support for Infection Prevention and Control across North Somerset and contributing to the Local Authority and the ICBs objectives of protecting health and reducing communicable diseases and Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI).
Representing North Somerset Council on the local network meeting for Health Protection Managers.
Working closely with the other parts of the local public health system to ensure that the whole health protection agenda is addressed.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Work Style

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about health protection, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
An approved professional qualification relevant to health protection
Post qualification experience in relevant work area to give knowledge and understanding of the wider context and priorities of NHS and local government in relation to health protection
An awareness of the measures that need to be taken to provide equitable care and the social and cultural factors that may influence this at a national and local level
Experience in service development, quality assurance and improvement
Desirable Criteria:
Masters’ degree in public health
Public health practitioner registration
