Summary
Clinical responsibilities Act at all times to ensure high standard of care is delivered to CYP and families. Act to ensure safety of care and environment are maintained at all times. Provides direct nursing care to CYP and supports colleagues with their workloads. Maintains and develops high standards of care for all CYP within the unit. Ensures nursing care on the ward is delivered in a holistic manner using an individualised and family centred approach. Supports senior management in the development of Nursing Policies relevant to the ward and the Trust. Serves as a preceptor for new employees, students and staff members who are unfamiliar with the ward. Acts as a resource and role model for junior staff Participates and facilitates in the promotion of nursing and CYP educations and health promotion Promote welcoming, open and friendly working environment. Act as an advocate for the CYP and their families Undertake CYP assessment and problem identification including goal setting Plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of CYP care from admission to discharge, working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team. Ensure care needs of both the CYP and families and carers attending the department are met. Participate in quality nursing audits and other relevant audit plans within the ward and across the Trust as requested. Educational Responsibilities: Maintains own professional development through further study Support other staff education, participate in clinical teaching and supervision as appropriate. Support and participate in the implementation of research findings and disseminates information as appropriate to enhance current trend and evidence based nursing care Participates/collaborates in the audit, setting and evaluating standards of care. Support Quality Improvement work and be a positive change agent, collaborates in the development of innovative practices. Provides support in the orientation and induction of new staff including temporary staff Participates/collaborates in the assessment of staff education needs. Ensure compliance with own yearly appraisal. Conduct staff appraisal as delegated and appropriate following training and supervision Management Responsibilities: Lead clinical shifts and also support colleagues to develop the skills of Nurse in charge Co-ordinating CYP care and ward routine, making daily management decisions, supporting the team with clinical workload, wellbeing as appropriate Report and escalate any safety concern. Investigate incidents and produce report to senior sister/charge nurse and appropriate member of the team as requested. Responsible for ensuring staffing levels and skill mix of shifts are appropriate Support the ward senior sister/charge nurse in planning for safe nursing Promotes effective multi-professional collaboration and practice throughout the unit. Assists the senior sister/charge nurse in the recruitment and selection process Report any potential complaints or untoward incidents to the ward manager and participate in the trusts risk management process as appropriate. Assists in the management of budgets and ensures available resources are used efficiently. Assists staff as needed with stress reduction techniques and or direct to appropriate help. Maintain CYPF and staff confidentiality at all times. Be flexible with working hours to facilitate safe nursing care. Support the senior sister/charge nurse in staff compliance with educational and training requirements Professional Responsibilities: To practice within the scope of the NMC guidelines and unit policies and procedures To ensure that all documentation are accurate and legal Ensures staff sickness is appropriately documented, support senior sister/charge nurse with sickness management of staff Ensure good working relationships with the multi-professional team and to attend multi-professional meetings as appropriate.
