Promote high standards of specialist care for patients in all areas of maternity, ensuring a quality experience is received. Provide and promote a high standard of clinical excellence whilst coordinating the clinical activities on shift Establish effective working relationships with the Maternity team, inpatient and outpatient. Promote positive interpersonal relationships. Work autonomously to support staff, facilitating necessary staff redeployment activities whilst fostering sound working relationships and clinical engagement in all areas. Coordinate safe staffing and patient flow and have oversight of bed capacity on all Maternity wards to ensure safe, effective patient centred care. Ensure an effective learning environment for both students and qualified staff, to provide individualised support and guidance to develop and maintain clinical competencies. Ensure effective multidisciplinary working relationships with the maternity unit staff, allied groups within the trust and public and voluntary sectors. Promote staff wellbeing, job satisfaction and retention. Ensure appropriate escalation when application of restricted access policy is considered, to maximise safe client care. Coordinate response to all In utero transfer requests. Promote and facilitate the ability for all Daily Ward Safety and equipment checks to be completed to ensure the ward is safe and fit for use. Provide pastoral support to all maternity staff and students and promote staff wellbeing. Support clinical audit and quality improvement projects and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Actively participate in meetings such as Safety Summit to review clinical incidents and safety concerns raised on Labour Ward and lead on embedding actions and learning. Lead on quality improvement initiatives, and implementation of new practices as agreed by the MDT. Undertake Individual Appraisals and ensure staff are enabled in their development and supported to maintain wellbeing in the workplace. Responsible for safe maintenance and storage of equipment. Also ensure that all team members can use the equipment safely and effectively. Foster a proactive approach to handling conflict, grievances and complaints. Will anticipate and manage complaints as they arise and take action to prevent recurrence. Lead emergency response, whilst in Clinical or including fire response duties. Support with high risk/unwell patients on the wards e.g. perform blood cultures, ECGs. Provide expert clinical support to the workforce is an essential part of this role particularly with our Preceptee Midwives. Your role would support the learning environment leads by facilitating learning opportunities available to students and provide hands on clinical support to encourage midwives to achieve their clinical competencies.
