Crynodeb

To work as part of a team of Immunology Nurses who provide a high standard of care and treatment to patients with a variety of immunology and allergy conditions predominantly in an Outpatients setting. To assess new allergy patients in a clinic, request relevant tests and make diagnoses after receiving the relevant training. To promote and maintain a high standard of care for patients receiving immunoglobulin therapy in a Day Unit/Outpatient setting. To carry out a variety of allergy testing in a clinical setting, including skin and intradermal testing and drug/anaesthetic allergy testing. Full training will be given. To run a nurse led clinic providing specialist treatment to patients receiving desensitisation for severe allergy conditions. Establish and maintain a professional and therapeutic relationship with patients and their relatives through interpersonal and negotiation skills. Contribute to/deputise for the Immunology Lead Nurse, prioritising workload, managing time, resource and staff efficiently, working flexibly in differing environments without direct supervision and anticipating and planning for the future needs of the service. Communicate regularly with consultant immunologist and other health professionals working in the field of immunology, in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care. Be willing to develop skills required to assess new patients in allergy clinics. May be required to work at satellite centres on an as required basis. Willing to undertake training in order to support the immunology team and provide support and direction for professional practice. Ability to develop and teach practical skills to patients and their families in order that treatment can be continued in the community. Ability to demonstrate practical clinical skills (venepuncture and cannulation). Able to act as a knowledge resource for other health professionals needing advice on aspects of immunology and allergy. Be competent in assessing patients risk factors before and after allergy desensitisation injections. Be able to analyse complex clinical diagnostic allergy testing (skin prick testing) and interpret results. Life support skills (adult).
