Summary


The Cervical Cytology department at Manchester University Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a registered Biomedical Scientist to join our Cervical Cytology team.

We currently process approximately 470,000 requests producing approximately 70,000 cervical cytology slides using the Hologic ThinPrep LBC system. We are committed to quality and improvement and research activities. The department is UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training.

To be shortlisted for this role you will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist andideally hold anNHSCSP recognised Certificate in Cervical Cytology.The post holderwill work within the Cervical Cytology Department and will screen and report cervical cytology. Consideration will be given to suitable candidates who do not hold an NHSCSP recognised qualification, the successful post holder would undertake training to screen and report liquid based cervical cytology preparations, working towards the NHSCSP recognised Certificate in Cervical Cytology. We will also consider candidates working towards HCPC re-registration.

We are looking for either full or part-time working and you must be flexible to work within the departmental opening hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and cover Saturday mornings on a rota basis.

The post holder will provide day to day support to ensure that cervical samples are received, entered on to the LIMS and progressed to Virology for HPV testing, with appropriate cases processed, slides generated and stained for screening, checking and reporting.

Duties will include:

· screening of cervical cytology slides as part of the National Health Service Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP)

· Assisting the Advanced Biomedical Scientists in supervising sections of the department such as specimen reception and slide processing

· Involvement in the organisation and monitoring of workflow throughout all areas of the department.

· Participation in quality control checks, with identification of issues and problem solving
• · Responsible for operation and trouble shooting of complex laboratory equipment ensuring non-conformities, quality and safety issues are investigated, reported and resolved.

• · Work closely with colleagues in Virology and assist the HPV Lead and Pathway manager to ensure that samples are processed through the appropriate care pathway in a timely manner and to the correct quality standards.



· Accessing external Trust systems to gain information and adding to the laboratory information system
• Actively participate in audit processes, clinical trials, and research projects in the department
