Summary

Wales has one of the lowest areas of woodland cover in Europe. As we face a climate and biodiversity crisis the suite of woodland SSSI and SAC become even more important. However, the majority of the designated woodland in Wales is either unfavourable or their status is unknown. This project focuses on the conservation of the Meirionnydd Oakwoods and Bat Sites SAC in North Wales. Working closely with local communities and partner organisations, the project aims to:

Assess the health of temperate rainforests in the area.
Establish the distribution and abundance of key bat species, including barbastelle and lesser horseshoe bats.
Support woodland management strategies to restore vital habitats.
Enhance nature connections for disadvantaged communities.

What we're looking for:

Proven experience in conservation project management and partnership working.
Strong background in volunteer engagement and citizen science programmes.
Knowledge of woodland management and bat ecology (or similar conservation experience).
Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for project work.
Welsh language skills are highly desirable
