Summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. A consultant immunologist or allergist would be considered and the job plan attached, which is for guidance only, would be amended according to experience and interests.

The Regional Immunology and Allergy Service is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary with its own dedicated outpatient clinic space and a daycase area that is shared with the Medical Day Case Unit. Members of the department currently include 4 Consultant Immunologists (not including this post), 2 StRs, a teaching fellow, 3 nurse specialists, clinic staff and support from specialist dietitians. This substantive post is to replace a colleague who has relocated abroad.

The Department provides a full range of clinical services for a large cohort of patients with primary and secondary immune deficiencies, including those receiving immunoglobulin replacement therapy, patients with autoinflammatory diseases and other immune diseases. We offer a wide range of allergy services including drug and perioperative allergy testing. An immunotherapy programme is provided for patients with allergies to venom and inhalants. Biologicals are administered for a variety of autoimmune and autoinflammatory conditions. The Department is accredited by QPIDS and is registered with IQAS. Transition clinics are held for patients with Primary Immunodeficiency Deficiency, including autoinflammatory conditions and for those who have had bone marrow transplants for primary immunodeficiency. There is close working with the paediatric immunology and allergy teams, and with the haematology team as the service for offering bone marrow transplants to adult patients with PID expands.

Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites:

• Freeman Hospital
• Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
• Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)
• Newcastle Dental Hospital
• Newcastle Fertility Centre
• Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
• Northern Genetics Service
• Cramlington Manor Walks

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
