Summary
Job Summary To provide high quality nursing associate services, which include health promotion to the Practice population. To deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care and patient education to help support patients improve and maintain their overall health. To work under indirect supervision and perform tasks prescribed and delegated, working to PSDs and agreed protocols, within an evidence base and within defined competencies to meet the needs of patients and the Practice. Working to improve standards of care and be involved in identifying practice population needs, supporting the contractual, local and national requirements of specifications as requested e.g GMS Contract, Quality Outcomes Framework and enhanced services. Key Responsibilities Clinical Practice Chaperoning / assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician. To prepare and assist with minor surgical procedures. To support cold chain management including fridge temperature checks, data logger checks and the raising of cold chain incidents Making onwards referrals to specialist clinics such as diabetes prevention and education, diabetic eye screening, pulmonary rehab, diet, weight management, smoking cessation, and general lifestyle referrals Assist in the assessment, planning, development, and implementation of programmes to promote health and wellbeing. Take observations and identify signs of deterioration and report these appropriately. This may include but is not limited to pulses, respirations, oxygen saturations, peak flow, blood glucose, nutrition, and hydration. Undertake pathology requests. For example, phlebotomy, urine culture and swabs. Accurately label and document patient samples and submit for collection and analysis. Undertake investigative procedures including ECG, blood pressure, urine analysis, foot checks, spirometry. Deliver health promotional health checks such as NHS Health checks. Contribute to chronic disease management in areas such as but not limited to Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, CVD, Learning Disabilities, CKD and other enhanced service specifications as required appropriate to role. Provide Cervical cytology, once trained to do so. Administer routine injections in accordance with the practice policies i.e childhood and adult immunisations in accordance with national guidelines as well as hormone injections, Vit B12 injections, contraceptive injections, flu / covid vaccinations alongside the completion of accurate recording of patient vaccination records. Under PSD as required. To support the infection, prevention and control lead within the practice to undertake regular audits and oversee required training for staff. Including attendance at meetings and additional training sessions as needed. Partake in audit as required and identified. Support training and development of any new or development roles within the team as requested by leads. The above is not an exhaustive list of expected duties to be undertaken. Full training and competencies will be given to ensure that the post holder has the appropriate skills to undertake the above.
