Summary

In the Department of Health and Social Care, we are proud of our purpose – to enable everyone to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. To achieve this, and create a great place to work, we have four values: we are inclusive, we constantly improve, we challenge, and we are agile. If this sounds like an environment you would like to work in, we would love to hear from you.

DHSC leads the health and social care system, working collaboratively with a range of arms-length bodies (ALBs). The Department’s total group budget is approximately £180 billion this year.

The Finance Business Partnering, Capability and Business Support Directorate is a dynamic function that works across a full range of stakeholders in a range of different functions across the group. This includes Finance Business Partnering support across a range of complex policy and strategy areas. We add value to strategic decision-making by applying a financial lens and effective financial support to DHSC policy teams.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is an executive agency sponsored by DHSC, and they are responsible for preventing, preparing for, and responding to infectious diseases and environmental hazards, to keep our communities safe, save lives and protect livelihoods. DHSC’s UKHSA Financial Sponsorship Team has responsibility for the financial sponsorship of UKHSA, including providing financial oversight of core activities, vaccines, reporting and governance, and works closely with DHSC’s UKHSA Policy Sponsorship Team.

In this role you will lead on sponsorship of UKHSA’s core activities, including business cases, capital projects, business planning, budget-setting, strategic work, programme boards, briefings and commissions, and business-as-usual activities.

The post holder will report to a G7 Finance Business Partner and in addition will support and receive support from the G6 Senior Finance Business Partner and SCS as needed. The team is comprised of four SEOs, four Grade 7s, and one Grade 6.

More general information about Finance Business Partnering roles within government is available on the following website: https://gff.civilservice.gov.uk/finance-business-partnering/

The role provides an excellent opportunity to function with a large degree of autonomy within a supportive and agile team. The team is made up of a mix of both qualified accountants and those with other relevant experience. A finance qualification is advantageous but not essential for this role (a wide range of applicants are encouraged; the required key skills and experience are set out below). This role attracts a market pay supplement if Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) or equivalent qualified. We are supportive of candidates who are seeking to become qualified, either starting their qualification through an apprenticeship, or in supporting individuals who are part way through their studies.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Those that hold a full CCAB, CIMA or equivalent qualification will be eligible for an annual market pay supplement of £7,000. This payment is in addition to the advertised baseline salary. The department also provides support to become qualified.

If you have any questions about the role and would like an informal discussion, please contact the vacancy holder: eliza.hughes@dhsc.gov.uk
