Operational Manager – Role Overview
The Regional Valuation Units (RVU) and Council Tax Unit (CT) are responsible for rateable value and valuing property for tax purposes. RVU also supports Non-Domestic Rating activity with both units providing technical advice to other work streams in the Valuation Office Agency.
This is a fantastic role for someone who is passionate about inspiring and motivating a team. You’ll encourage collaboration and innovation to ensure effective communication, sharing of ideas and continuous improvement.
You’ll manage a team of caseworkers and be accountable for achieving the team’s strategic targets and objectives. Our managers play a pivotal role in delivering an excellent service to our customers through their support and guidance to our caseworkers. In addition, you will identify, translate, and communicate business goals and requirements into day-to-day activities.
Successful candidates will be assigned roles in either the RVU or CT business areas.
Operational Manager – Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team to achieve key operational delivery targets.
- Recognise and deal with management issues within the team, resolving them quickly and effectively, robustly dealing with performance issues – applying the correct HR principles to process and escalate where appropriate.
- Monitor operational performance of the team against strategic targets and objectives, interrogating data and making effective decisions on work priorities, identifying issues and making recommendations on action to be taken.
- Effective triage and allocation of casework to your team, as well as undertaking quality assurance activities.
- Providing a robust management function to ensure that the team is appropriately supported.
- Engage and support the team through change by communicating the need for change, identifying, and promoting potential benefits, and ensuring the team feels involved in the development of change plans.
- Identify and communicate business needs, create robust workforce plans to maximise efficiency, and manage and mitigate potential risks.
There will be a need for occasional travel across the UK with some overnight stays required to support business needs.
