Summary
The Head of Strategic Architecture takes Defra’s technology vision and creates technology standards and guidance to implement it in detail. For example, the Head of Strategic Architecture is leading on the roll out of the Central Digital & Data Office (CDDO) ‘Secure by Design’ initiative that will have significant impact on our cyber resilience. This role requires building strong relationships with:
- Colleagues across DDTS (Digital, Data and Technology Services) and Defra
- Peers in other departments
- The Chief Architect (SCS1) and Head of Platforms (SCS1) in DDTS
The Head of Strategic Architecture has budget authority for c£12m. This translates to management accountability for more than 30 permanent and contract staff, as well as the management of suppliers engaged to deliver technical products. You will make judgements about technical, data and information matters that will influence the departmental spend of almost £300m a year and will have lasting influence over the department’s reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure governance compliance with architectural, information management, and cyber-security standards.
- Develop principles and guidelines for security, re-use, and sustainability of solutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders and key technology suppliers.
- Create technical architecture roadmaps and evaluate supplier proposals.
- Align systems and IT services with our goal of becoming a data-driven organisation.
