Summary
We are creating a digital culture where user needs are at the heart of everything we build. Through data democratisation, automation, governance and consolidation we will create a better Cabinet Office. As the digital arm of the department, we advise and assure our colleagues in developing their own Government Digital and Data capabilities, as well as taking on delivery responsibilities ourselves.
The Content Designer role is within the Platforms and Services Operations team within Cabinet Office Digital and focuses on Content Management System (CMS) services across Cabinet Office. This role is expected to focus most of its time on the Cabinet Office intranet, supporting other services as and when required.
The CMS delivery team is expanding and currently includes supporting the Civil Service Careers website and Cabinet Office Intranet. The Cabinet Office Intranet is the main source of information on policy, procedure and guidance supporting Cabinet Office employees. Most content on the intranet is written and maintained by a network of content owners across the Cabinet Office, including business units, HR and internal comms.
Cabinet Office Digital has a thriving community of User Centred Design professionals who meet regularly to share insights, knowledge and learning. As a Content Designer in Cabinet Office Digital, you’ll use your creative flair to make things easier for users to understand and navigate to engaging information that helps them make informed choices and follow the correct courses of action. This could involve working on a single piece of content, or on the end-to-end journey of our service, to help users complete their goals. In this role, your work may involve the creation of, or change to, a transaction, product or single piece of content that stretches across digital and offline channels.
This role aligns with the Government DDAT skills profile of Content Designer.
Main Responsibilities
- Create and improve existing content on the Cabinet Office intranet, and other services;
- Manage stakeholder relations, and share expertise across government about how to create engaging and clear content;
- Take a user-centred perspective on content strategy and inform future design decisions with visualised content concepts;
- Develop content management strategies for CMS-based services in Cabinet Office;
- Use evidence, data and research to make content decisions as well as Government Digital Service style guides and content patterns.
