Summary
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic colleague to join our team of doctors in the provision of Ophthalmology services on the Isle of Wight. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing team and form an integral part of the Isle of Wight service.
• To assist in the provision of a comprehensive service in Ophthalmology under the supervision of the designated consultant(s).
• Participation in the day-to-day management of ophthalmic patients.
• To undertake clinics as required.
• The professional supervision and management of nursing staff as necessary.
• Participate in production and revision of ophthalmic local guidelines.
• So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
• The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
St Mary’s Hospital is situated on the outskirts of Newport and provides a full range of services associated with a typical District General Hospital. It has approximately 280 beds, over a range of medical and surgical specialties and a 24-hour Emergency Department.
The Ophthalmology Department is based within the Planned Care Directorate led by Dr Oliver Cramer, Clinical Director, Leann Hetherington, Associate Director of Operations and Lynda Hadley, Head of Nursing and Quality.
The Ophthalmology Department provides a wide range of medical and surgical ophthalmology services to the population of the Isle of Wight including vitreo-retinal, cataract, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, orthoptics, medical retina/ uveitis, oculoplastic,emergency and general ophthalmology. The participation in the National Ophthalmic Database (NOD), supports excellent cataract facilities.
The Eye department is a well-equipped modern department and has equipment including Pentacam tomographer, swept-source IOL Master 700 with Barrett suite, two Optos machines, Topcon 3D OCT and OCT-A, Heidelberg Spectralis, Humphrey VF networked perimetry, PASCAL, Diode, YAG and SLT Lasers, fluorescein and ICG angiography. There are ultrasonic pachymeters and the latest Medisight EPR, including full EPR audit suites. Surgery is provided in the fully equipped purpose built Eye Day Surgery Theatre, which opened in 2022.
