The aim of the current posts is to to support a post-doctoral Rheumatology academic to work within the School, to develop her/his skills and expertise, and become an independent researcher.

The post-holder will work within the multidisciplinary research team of the Keele-Haywood Academic Rheumatology Group (KHARG) and the related research groups in Centre for Musculoskeletal Health Research. These groups sit within the internationally acclaimed Primary Care Centre Versus Arthritis at Keele University and include rheumatologists, general practitioners, allied health professionals, nurses, methodologists, and statisticians. We undertake applied multidisciplinary clinical research focusing on the causes, consequences, and management of common rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions in primary and secondary care, including rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and musculoskeletal pain. Our research is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Versus Arthritis. The collaboration between these academic groups and clinical rheumatology services at the Haywood Hospital gained international recognition as a European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) Centre of Excellence for Rheumatology Research (awarded 2016, successfully renewed 2021).

The post holder will work within these groups to undertake and disseminate research in rheumatology (including in high-quality journals), apply for competitive research funding to support their own future clinical academic career, and supervise postgraduate and undergraduate student researchers. In addition, they will work clinically within the NHS in England.

The post is open to applicants with skills and experience in any type of research or methodology.

You will be qualified to PhD level in health research (or thesis submission will be imminent) at interview. You will be expected to contribute clinical insights, and knowledge and expertise in Rheumatology as above, and participate in teaching and research training programmes, contribute to the development of new studies and research grant applications, and undertake an active role in PhD supervision. You will also be required to maintain up to 5 PAs in NHS clinical practice.
