As part of the Children’s Physiotherapy Department in Newham, you can make a difference!



We are a small team of dedicated and experienced physiotherapists, who are committed to continuous improvement to ensure the best possible support and outcomes for the children and young people known to our service.



We are dedicated to staff development, We have a strong culture of service and quality improvement, which is supported by regular in-service training and supervision.



This post provides opportunity to develop both clinical skills and develop special areas of interest within a supportive team of therapists. The Clinical caseload will include:

· Cerebral palsy

· Neurological conditions

· Musculoskeletal conditions

· Ex-premature infants

· Orthopaedics -including clubfoot ( CTEV)



Children are seen in a variety of settings including clinic, mainstream and resourced schools, nurseries and the child’s home.









Working alongside experienced band 7, band 6, band 5 and PTA staff you will be given opportunities to provide:

· clinical supervision of a Physiotherapy assistance or band 5

· clinical education for students

· support the development of clinical pathways

· Manage a clinical workload with support of a band 7



Our service is based at the West Ham Lane Child Development Centre, near Stratford and the Olympic park - an exciting, diverse and vibrant borough, located only 3 miles from the City of London.



We have developed exciting joint working opportunities with OTs and SLTs and have many MDT pathways in place. In addition there will be opportunities for you to work alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team including paediatricians in specialist clinics.





The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high standard of paediatric physiotherapy to children and young people (CYP) aged 0-18 who are referred to the service.

This will include physiotherapy assessment, providing therapy interventions, devising therapy programs, setting and reviewing goals, assessing for specialist equipment and orthotics and orthopaedic monitoring.

The post holder can expect to work in a variety of locations within Newham according to the needs of the children; this may include clinics, schools and the child’s home. Working with families, carers and teaching staff without direct supervision.

The post holder will be supported by a Band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist for their informal and monthly formal supervision, their appraisal and development.

We provide a Band 6 rotation in the three main specialties of Paediatrics (Early intervention including neurodevelopment, Orthopedic monitoring and CPIPs and Orthotics/Serial Casting including MSK).

The post holder will also contribute to the development of evidence based practice provision and development of, clinical effectiveness or service developments through the preparation and presentation of a relevant project.

Infection Control

Infection Control is everyone's responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, are required to adhere to the Trusts' Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of all Healthcare Associated Infections including MRSA. In particular, all staff have the following key responsibilities:

Staff must observe stringent hand hygiene. Alcohol rub should be used on entry to and exit from all clinical areas. Hands should be washed before and after following all patient contact. Alcohol hand rub before and after patient contact may be used instead of hand washing in some clinical situations.



Staff members have a duty to attend infection control training provided for them by the Trust as set in the infection control policy.

Staff members who develop an infection that may be transmissible to patients have a duty to contact Occupational Health.
