Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within our Occupational Therapy Stroke Service. The successful candidate will be required to offer specialist OT assessment, treatment and discharge support for patients with complex physical and health needs in the area of Stroke Rehabilitation. Our service covers from Hyper Acute Stroke, through to rehabilitation as an inpatient, and into the community with our Early Supported Discharge team. With a new leadership structure and clinical leads in each area, the successful candidate will have access to specialist knowledge and support, offering opportunities to learn, gain experience and to help shape a service.
This is a permanent position, and is initially to cover maternity leave within our Stroke Service. Following this, the successful candidate will then be offered a vacant post within the wider OT service which will be determined closer to the time. This will allow further opportunity for the successful candidate to work wider and gain further experience and skills within Northumbria HealthCare’s Occupational Therapy Services.

• To ensure the stroke OT service provision is prioritised and service delivery is made effectively within resource constraints.
• To manage a defined caseload of patients (often with highly complex and long-term needs), using evidence based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
• To undertake highly complex assessments, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions. This work will take place both in patients’ homes and hospital.
• To provide leadership for junior and support staff, through supervision and mentoring.
• To carryout appraisals with junior and support staff, as delegated by Line Manager.
• To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects through specialist interest and steering group.
• To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy service.
• To regularly supervise undergraduate Occupational Therapy students on practice placement and participate in placement experience of other professionals.

To provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service in the specialised area of stroke, managing a caseload of patients (often with highly complex needs), using evidence based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and discharge support for patients with complex physical and health needs in the area of Stroke Rehabilitation. The service provides occupational therapy in hyper-acute, inpatient rehab and community rehab settings.
The successful candidate will need to have post graduate experience of working within a stroke service. They will need to feel confident and comfortable working autonomously without direct supervision, and have the skills to guide and support others e.g. rotational staff, rehabilitation assistants and technical instructors.
