Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join the Diabetes Specialist Service at Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust. This post will allow you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in the specialist area of Diabetes.
You will join the friendly, established team of highly skilled band 6 and band 7 Diabetes Specialist Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants and will be based at North Tyneside General Hospital, working Trust wide in both primary care and a secondary care setting.
As a team we work in an extended role, delivering specialised care in Type 1 and 2 Diabetes.
The successful candidate will be delivering expert diabetes dietetics into both the Northumbria Diabetes Specialist Service MDT and primary care clinics, acting as a link between the two. They will act as an expert resource to optimise diet and lifestyle interventions as well as to advise on medication regimens where appropriate, within agreed clinical frameworks. They will form an integral part of the Diabetes Specialist MDT, working closely with our DSNs, Doctors and Psychologist.
As a team we work into specialist diabetes outpatient areas including antenatal and 16-25. We also regularly deliver group patient education including insulin starts, insulin pump starts and DAFNE. We frequently undertake training of other health care professionals.
You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work both autonomously and as a valued part of the MDT. A further element of the role will also include acting as integral member of the MDT for Adult Weight Management Services throughout North Tyneside and Northumberland , delivering specialised skills in both a one to one and a group setting. Please note, there will be an element of infrequent evening work. A full driving license is required. As a team we also participate in student training and clinical supervision

• To act as a specialist dietitian in your area of expertise and provide a comprehensive and effective dietetic service to the trust.
• To provide a quality Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust to include diverse inpatient and outpatient specialties.
• The post will cover a specific specialty working in one area eg Critical Care, Stroke, Gastroenterology, Surgery, General Medicine, Diabetes, Respiratory, COPD, ONS, Oncology, Bariatrics, Community Oral Nutrition Support, Home Enteral Feeding, Adult weight management and Orthopaedics etc across sites and / or to have a site specialty role.
• There may be a requirement for input to community hospitals and Care Homes as part of the trust and your specialty remit.
• There may be a requirement to undertake home visits as part of your specialty.
• There may be a requirement to participate in weight management groups in the community as part of your specialty.
