DBT is recruiting for an interesting and challenging role as a G7 lead on all international trade remedy matters within a region, as well as leading various policy work. This role is a unique blend of leading international negotiations and representations, alongside driving forwards complex policy work. This role will require close collaboration with policy colleagues in DBT and across Whitehall, analysts and lawyers. Training and development will be offered and the opportunity to join the Policy and International Trade Profession. The role will equally see the post holder work across a dynamic team to refresh our approach to international trade remedies; and lead a variety of projects from managing our regional response to foreign trade remedies, expanding our international profile and handling complex and often geopolitical issues. The work associated with this role often attracts significant senior and Ministerial attention.

This is an exciting time to be joining DBT’s Trade Defence Directorate. Our mission is to ensure the UK is defended from unfair trade, market distortions and emerging threats to protect our economic prosperity and security. This role will play a key part in implementing trade remedies to protect UK business from injury caused by cases of dumping, unfair subsidies, and surges of imports.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Leading on all elements of international trade remedies within one regional area.
  • Leading UK negotiations on remedies in FTAs or other international discussions;
  • Managing the UK response to foreign investigations against UK/industry in that region;
  • Proactively engaging international partners to develop our relations and promote our vision for trade remedies;
  • Driving forwards implementation of trade remedy agreements in that region.
  • Developing strong and positive relations across DBT, Whitehall and with external stakeholders in particular with regional colleagues as well as other FTA negotiating areas.
  • Working closely with your regional counterparts in the team as well as the wider Trade Remedies team, ensuring strategic and policy coherence across our work, domestic and international remedies policy, including our WTO policy positions.
  • Leading development of international trade remedies policy which could include our strategic approach to engagement and representation in international fora.
  • Working flexibly across Trade Remedies in line with the priorities of the wider team as the work of the Directorate expands.
  • Line managing at least one SEO and one HEO as well as matrix managing other SEOs/HEOs in agile manner.
