Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Head and Neck Team on secondment as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Thyroid service.

This post is maternity leave cover for the current CNS for a period of 12 months.

A comprehensive training package is available for the appointee to achieving the required competences.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with the CNS's, Clinic and Medical team in the delivery of the service.

Some experience of project management will be advantageous.

Demonstrating strong passion for the speciality you will be the keyworker for the patient from their diagnosis of thyroid cancer through their treatment and follow up.

You will be expected to hold nurse led clinics working collaboratively with the MDT. Experience of Thyroid care is essential.

The role involves working within established nurse led virtual and face-to-face clinics. You will be expected to provide ward-based support under the direction of the manager. The role also involves supporting with 2-week wait (suspected cancer) pre visit planning clinics. There will be significant direct interaction with consultants and opportunities to develop specific procedural skills like head and neck examinations and supervised pharyngolaryngeal endoscopy.


• Working as an independent specialist under the guidance of the Clinicians and Lead CNS
• Assisting in the running of the following clinics; Long term thyroid cancer follow up, Head and neck nurse follow up, Post-operative calcium monitoring, Pre visit neck lump telephone clinic and benign histology clinic.
• Review patients on the ward following thyroidectomy surgery and provide support during inpatient stay and following surgery.
• Reviewing medication once appropriately trained
• Attend MDT and take necessary actions
• Facilitate Patient recovery and Psychological support.
• Work in close collaboration with the MDT including in patient and out patient departments.
• Act as a resource of specialist knowledge and information for members of the Trust multi-disciplinary team
• Training of staff within the Trust regarding safe care
• Participate in and contribute to service improvement
• Liaise with different staff groups both internal and external to the department to enhance patient pathways
• Complete patient holistic needs assessments
• Participate in peer review and patient feedback programmes to improve experience
