Exciting opportunities have arisen to be part of DCHS Integrated facilities Team (IFM) Bank.

The Bank is our Temporary workforce which is essential to cover holidays, sickness etc you will be working on an flexible rota on a as and when required basis. Full training will be given.

We are actively recruiting Bank Catering Assistants into the following localities:

Ripley Hospital (DE5 3HE) andIlkeston Hospital (DE7 8LN)

Working within IFM service, you will become an active member of our team working closely with other disciplines and have the opportunity to work across our units and wards.

Previous experience is desirable, but not essential as full training is provided.

Catering Assistant
• To maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the Catering Department and to serve meals and functions to patients, staff and visitors to the Trust, ensuring that Food Hygiene Regulations and Health & Safety at Work policies and procedures are complied with
• To provide a catering service in line with patient nutrition and hydration
• To play an integral part in delivering outstanding patient care at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust (DCHS)..

Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire. We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

We take the health, safety and well-being of our colleagues very seriously and all of our staff are fully trained and provided with the correct uniform and PPE to ensure they can undertake their tasks in a safe and effective manner at all times.

We have bank opportunities in Catering Assistant roles; providing cover for staff absence and other emergencies on an "as and when" basis.

Catering Duties
• To undertake cleaning within the Catering Department to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout. Where necessary using mechanical equipment such as pot washing and floor washing machinery.
• Follow specific schedule of work relating to defined areas – though post holders are required to have a flexible approach to a daily routine and have the ability to organise and prioritise their own day to day work
• Escalate issues appropriately and via correct escalation process
• Ensure all incidents are raised and recorded accurately and within required timeframes and via appropriate system. i.e. Datix
• To wash all crockery and cooking utensils in order to assist in providing a safe and hygienic catering operation.
• Responsible for putting stores away, including stock rotation and keeping all storage areas clean and tidy in line with the Food Hygiene Regulations.
• Removal of all refuse and rubbish into the appropriate waste streams including food waste and waste oil and replenishing and cleaning of all refuse bins located in the area
• To ensure high standards of both personal and food hygiene are maintained and ensuring all relevant departmental policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
• To ensure all labelling is accurate and appropriate
• Assisting in the operation of the HACCP system with the checking and recording of freezers, refrigerators and vending machines and hot and cold cabinets temperatures in line with Assured Safe Catering procedures.
• Knowledge and understanding of allergen information and special dietary requirements
• Knowledge and understanding of required CQUIN compliance within the catering service
• Service of food and beverages to patients, staff and visitors as required.
• Preparation of sandwiches and snacks as required.
• To set up, wait on and clear away at functions ensuring a professional catering service is maintained and customer’s needs met.
• To assist the Head Cook in ordering provisions to ensure stock levels of cleaning materials, confectionery, beverage items and disposables are maintained.
• To report to the Head Cook any equipment defects for repair in order to maintain the catering service.
• To report to the Head Cook any stock shortages, damaged stock, out of date stock and wastage of stock
• Ensure any concerns or problems are escalated as required and undertake remedial action where appropriate
• Operating the cash till in accordance with the Trust Financial Standing Instructions
• Maintenance of vending provision, stock control, cleanliness, maintenance and assisting with the removal of cash takings.
• To ensure a professional manner at all times and maintain positive communication with colleagues, all DCHS staff and managers, patients, visitors and suppliers etc
• Accurate completion of all required documentation to support specific service processes
• To comply with operation manuals including Food Safety, HACCP and COSH
