About the Employer

I am the employer and the service user. I have been allocated 8 hours’ support per week via direct payments, to assist me with some of the physical requirements of living at home. I reside in my own property and have 2 dogs. I am extremely independent and manage all my own personal care needs and medication. I have a diagnosis of Bipolar Type 2, and Spina Bifida which affects my mobility. I have a manual wheelchair which I require both in and out of my home to get around. I have been allocated direct payment to allow me to employ a PA with tasks I find difficult to manage or complete myself. This may range from assisting me with gardening, housework, decorating and DIY.
I am a home body and enjoy spending time within my home. I work part time and work from home, so the PA support can be delivered anytime across the week, the times and days can be agreed week on week between employee and myself. The PA I am looking for will assist me in managing, supporting, and assisting me in helping me to complete the more physical tasks within my home, that I may struggle with, however there would be requirement for support also to go shopping and occasionally social activities or outings. I require someone who is proactive and willing to get involved with the tasks identified. I enjoy going to the cinema, shopping, eating out and going to garden centres, and may require my PA to accompany me.
TASKS REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED OR SUPPORTED BY THE PA:
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support to go shopping.
• Assisting and getting involved in decorating me and completing some basic DIY around the home.
• Gardening
• General housework- cleaning, washing & ironing
• Support and/or prompting me to access leisure activities.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Required Skills:

• Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
• To be able to work on own initiative.
• Be patient, supportive and caring.
• Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
• Be empathetic.
• Previous caring experience is not essential, however you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.
• Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.
• Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
• Have a lively personality.

When you are Required:

Hours per week: 8 hours per week The sessions can be delivered flexibly- days, times and sessions to be arranged week by week between employer and employee. Can be discussed at interview.
