We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, dynamic and inspirational senior midwife to provide specialist midwifery services to a defined group of high-risk women with diabetes, to ensure they receive high quality care.

Fixed term post for 12 months ( maternity leave cover) commencing September 24

Secondment opportunity will also be considered

You will have an extensive evidence based, clinical knowledge of management of diabetes in pregnancy, a passion for diabetes care, high level communication and organisational skills, and be able to work closely with other agencies and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a seamless service.

You should be committed to implementing high-risk pathways for women who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

The successful candidate will also be responsibility for service improvement in accordance with national guidance.

You will need to be able to demonstrate recent clinical experience, have the requisite level of competencies at band 7 and provide evidence of on-going professional development. Further education is encouraged, including support to attend relevant courses to maintain personal and professional development to meet service needs.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. To provide midwifery care to a caseload of patients attending the pregnancy assessment unit and to provide verbal and written handovers to midwifery colleagues and the multi disciplinary team


To provide midwifery and diabetes care both pre-conceptually and antenatally to a caseload of women with both pre-existing and gestational diabetes.


To manage midwives, nursing and others within the unit ensuring services are delivered within defined budget.
To provide midwifery and diabetes care to an advanced level
